Top notes are the scents that dominate the first few minutes after application. The first impression is that you smell different after just a few minutes.

Heart notes are the scents that appear after the top notes have largely disappeared, about ten minutes after application. Almost all floral fragrances have heart notes. The heart is perhaps the most important part of the fragrance, lasting an average of two to three hours.

Base notes are the last remaining scents after the heart notes have largely evaporated. This usually happens two to three hours after applying the perfume. Base notes can continue to release scent for many hours or throughout the day.
